Hello again, as mentioned previously, I was diagnosed in my late 50’s with severe Celiac Disease. Is it possible that there is any correlation between Celiac and chronic prostatitis? I regularly have prostate pain after eating, and the pain is severe at times. Also, is it possible to have yeast infection associated with Celiac Disease? I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks!

I have not seen this well documented but some believe both are related to gluten intolerance. Do you adhere to a gluten free diet? You should definitely have a urologist check your prostate at your age if you have not already done so; would love to hear what they think?

Hi Charles, I’ve had my prostate checked by a urologist with the usual DRE
and psa protocols. They simply state that I have chronic prostatitus and
want to begin another regimen of antibiotics, which have only made my gut
problem much worst….Actually before I was diagnosed with Celiac, I was
placed on a variety of antibiotics for prostate infection (which may have
been attributed to the undiagnosed Celiac) and this caused horrific damage
to my gut. It wasn’t until about a year later that I began having serious
complications (black stool & itching) that I finally had an upper endoscopy
which then revealed (through biopsy) that I had serve Celiac Sprue…Now I
can seem to find anyone who will (or can ) treat me. I actually has a blood
test about a year ago showing that I have yeast (Candida) in my blood
stream, but I was afraid to use the medicine, which cautions that liver
damage may result if used? If you know anyone who would be willing to help
me out, I would greatly appreciate your help!

Have you been seen by a Gastroenterologist that specializes in Celiac Disease?

I haven’t been able to find an actual Gastroenterologist that has specific
training in Celiac Disease. I’ve been told that “all gastro’s have the same
training and are therefore as capable as any other Gastroenterologist.” I
have tried to research this matter and it seems that the only place in the
U.S is in Chicago, IL … Honestly, I really don’t know what to do?

While thats probably true, all doctors ultimately specialize by choice in different areas and i am sure there are GI’s that have self selected an interest in Celiac disease.

Hi Charles, I live in the Florida Keys, but have seen Gastroenterologist in
South Florida. When I make the appointments, I specifically ask for a
gastro who specializes in Celiac (I rely upon the information provided by
the person making my appointment) only to find that when I arrive for the
appointment, the doctor then tells me that he don’t actually specialize in
Celiac, but can provide the necessary care and testing… All I know is
that I have been adhering to a strict gluten free diet since my diagnosis
in 2009. However I have never been able to overcome the symptoms I’ve
described. My last upper & lower endoscopy was in 2012 and according to the
report, everything was within normal limits, however no one has address the
yeast and prostate infection issues which I know have some correlation to
my gut? (is it possible this is a parasite issue?) I should mention that,
at times, my left underarm lymph nodes flare up for some reason. This also
seems to have some correlation to eating ? Sorry for all the complication,
just looking for some relief.
Thanks for listening!

May I ask you, in what way would that information be helpful? Over the past
several years and many attempts to find help, I have learned that
referencing physicians has not been helpful to me…I believe that an
unbiased approach would be best, don’t you? I guess this will be the last I
hear of you…

Not sure what you mean; i am just trying to see if there is a doctor with an expertise and interest in Celiac disease close to where you live that you could consider seeing. In my experience getting to an interested expert is the best chance to get difficult problems solved, albeit no guarantee.
