What did your life style changes did your doctor recommend after your diagnosis of Crohns or Ulcerative Colitis and what helped you the most to improve your symptoms?

The basic recommendation was eat low residue, and begin Lialda. Improvement was very slow, and eventual a long term course of oral prednisone was added. After a few years, I am doing a lot better. No pred, 1-2 Lialda daily. A few useful dietary modifications, like including some oat bran (for butyrate fermentation), daily probiotic supplements, and avoid mixing large amounts of dairy+sugar.
So prednisone and dietary modification have really made a difference for you? Thats very encouraging news

What probiotic supplements do you use? I have also cut out dairy and sugar.
still looking for a good probiotic supplement- any ideas?
I have used Florastor on and off for several years and it is, by far, my favourite.

Check out this presentation by Elisabeth R. Evans, MSN, FNP-BC at our recent education event. She does a great job describing the benefits of probiotics: http://www.ibdsf.org/index.php/ibdsf-events/education-symposia.
Great info- thanks for sharing.
