Linzess

What is your opinion of the medication Linzess?

As this is a prescription I take due to insurance giving no other option, I am taking Linzess. For me, compared to the Amitiza, that I was originally on, it really does not work well. I had IBS-C and now it has switched to IBS-D.

I forced to take Linzess . I have started tracking foods I eat previous to any ‘diarrhea’ and have found that fats and sugars create a problem for me. As this approach is relatively new, I hope in the next year to have more knowledge of diet for me.

Everyone responds differently to medication. You did not say if you are having a problem with Linzess or even if you are taking it. Doctor told me to take powdered fibers like Metamucil or the opposite, Miralax type products, when needed to supplement the Linzess, but sometimes I don’t know what to take as it is a daily battle.

Truthfully, I am not convinced that this medication does anything for me..

Thank you for your post. My gastroenterologist prescribed Linzess after trying his suggestion of making fruit smoothies and eating prunes didn’t work. Linzess worked in the beginning but stopped being effective. I also have taken Miralax which worked at the time.
My IBS has worsened over the last six months and I am taking Magnesium Citrate. I haven’t had a “normal” movement in months.
I have gramps and bloating. Therefore, I have decided to see a Doctor who specializes in “functional medicine”. They work with diet, cleanses and supplements to get to the “root” of the problem and not just treat the systems.
I am willing to do whatever it takes to help me.
Good Luck.

Thank you for the reply. I have never heard of ‘functional medicine’ and
will look into this myself. I am tired of having my daily life affected and
it is beyond irritating. I feel for you as I can relate. I hope you find
something that will work for you. Let me know how it goes and if I come
across anything I will do the same.

Not sure about your situation regarding meds, money etc., but have you asked
your doctor to change your prescription. You might try a different one to
get some relief if a different med would work for you. However, having said
that, I agree with you totally in that the core of the problem is not
addressed by many doctors. The ‘magic’ pill does not always work.

Also, look into calming yourself with meditation, yoga, walking whatever
works.

Good Luck to you as well.

I have great empathy as I have had issues with my diagnosis. It seems there is no magic pill and everyone has a slightly different story.

-Curious what your doctor indicated was the cause of the IBS?
-Are you drinking enough water during the day?
-Do you get any exercise? (walking helps)
-Try some ‘basic’ Yoga and the breathing exercise to keep you calmer.
-Taking Miralax type product to add moisture to the colon helps, but one time may not be enough. That’s
why drinking water helps
-If you get diarrhea, use a fiber product. The labels are meant for people who have no gastro problem.
-GET A SECOND OPINION FROM A GASTRO.
-Research medical sites on the web and try some of the things that are mentioned, for example, peppermint oil??? (helps some people with unpleasant symptoms)
-Are you eating fruit and veggies and fiber DAILY?
-GET A SECOND OPINION – your doctor does not sound like he is helping.

Good Luck AND send updates,

Stefania
