The oncology nurse can provide a number of important services for the patient, including: the administration of chemotherapy, conducting educational programs for the patient before, during, and after treatment, such as preparing a patient for chemotherapy by explaining what it is, how it is performed, the side effects, etc., providing special care for patients undergoing operations that change their body function or lifestyle, such as removal of a breast or an ostomy for colon or bladder cancer, helping plan at-home care and rehabilitation, and helping the patient and the patient's family with psychosocial issues.
