Amitiza is used to treat chronic constipation and treat irritable bowel syndrome in women with constipation as the main symptom. In my experience most patients experience improvement in symptoms initially but the drug definitely loses effectiveness over time in some instances. It seems to work best as part of an overall treatment plan. What dose were you taking? Did your doctor try increasing the dose?

My Doctor recommended taking one tablet 24mcg in the morning.
He did not want me to take two tablets as recommended from the drug information. So I am still taking it, but may stop soon.
I decided to try Ducalax gentle pink pill for constipation. It has helped me and I will take it a few times a week, I know laxatives of any kind are not advised, but I needed some relief. My Gastroenterologist came to the conclusion that I suffered from a “outlet” problem and not IBS.
